Flipkart’s Cleartrip confirms data breach after personal details of clients leaked
Cleartrip aforesaid that no sensitive data was compromised in the leak of personal details of clients
Cleartrip referred in an email that it had undergone a significant data failure in its systems.
“This is to inform you that there has been a security anomaly that entailed illegal and unauthorized access to a part of Cleartrip’s internal systems,” the email read.
The company explained the data breach, saying, “We are completely mindful that this would be of concern to you. We assure you that aside from some details which are a part of your profile, no sensitive information about your Cleartrip account has been compromised due to this anomaly of our systems.”
The travel major is taking legal action in response to the incident. In addition, an external forensics team has been hired to investigate the matter.
“We have identified a security anomaly in a few of our internal systems. Our information security team is currently investigating the matter, along with a leading external forensics partner, and is taking the necessary action. Appropriate legal action and recourse are being evaluated, and steps are being taken as per the law,” a Cleartrip representative informed Inc42.
In April of the past year, Cleartip was adopted by Walmart-owned Flipkart in a hardship sale. Unfortunately, the global Pandemic outbreak caused the collapse in demand for travel.
Walmart acquired Cleartrip for $40 million after it raised $56 million from investors.
In 2017, the company’s website was blemished by a grouping called Turtle Squad.
The Exchange Board and Securities of India had a cybersecurity incident. Police officials stated that hacker groups had aimed at over 2,000 internet sites and leaked information as part of cyber-terrorism against India.
