Congress accused of cross-voting in presidential polls claims Assam MLA
The AIUDF and the Congress had inscribed into an electoral alliance just before the assembly polls.
In Assam, opposition parties accuse each other of voting in the presidential election. But, according to All India United Democratic Front, close to 20 Congress lawmakers voted for Droupadi Murmu.
“There was a Congress meeting yesterday; it was attended by only two-three MLAs. Only District President was there. What was the need for a meeting in Assembly? Clear that Congress is cross-voting; it may be 20 plus. You can see numbers on the day of the result,” said Barbhuiya.
The Congress had betrayed its candidate in the election, he added further.
Meanwhile, the NCP’s Kandhal Jadeja said he voted for Murmu.
While speaking to journalists in Gujarat, the NCP MLA said that he balloted for the presidential candidate of the NDA.
This is a blow to the NCP, which lent its support to the joint opposition candidate in the Presidential polls.
Furthermore, Mohammed Moquim, a Congress legislator from Odisha, said he crossed-voted and voted for Droupadi Murmu. “I have voted for the daughter of the soil,” he added.
The 15th President of India will be elected at 10 am at the Parliament House and the state Legislative Assembly. After 5 pm, the voting process will be over. On July 21, the counting of votes will take place.
The YSRCP, the Bahujan Samaj Party, Biju Janata Dal, Telugu Desam Party, Janata Dal, Shiromani Akali Dal, both the cabals of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and Shiv Sena and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam are all supporters of the Murmu party.
Murmu is a late Governor of Jharkhand and an erstwhile minister in the authorities of Odisha. If chosen, she would be the very first tribal President of India and the second female President.
