Review: This movie is a remake of 1994 Hollywood drama “Forrest Gump” revolving around the Vietnam War into an Indian story. It pans out over multiple decades and is a part of excellence. Screenwriter Atul Kulkarni has done justice with the movie, giving Aamir Khan enough room for the emotional manoeuverings. Laal Singh requires to fight with the complex world around him without even losing his optimism, innocence, and gumption.
Aamir Khan puts all that he has into the role and comes up with a simpleton who is wonderfully loveable. The film’s principle strength stems from its stress on the power of hope amidst the time of venality. Initially, Aamir Khan comes with a perfectly pleasant and extra-chatty person that you dread sitting next to. Laal Singh Chaddha is considered the center of the events which changed India.
In the movie, there are solid supporting acts surrounding Laal. Mona Singh as his mother advises him that he is as good as anyone else. The interesting appearance of Naga Chaitanya as his Indian Army mate who is obsessed with the right fit of ‘Chaddi-baniyaan’. Manav Vij plays the role of a crippled soldier who moves from black despair to optimism. Kareen Kapoor Khan is acting as Rupa, the love of his life, and desperate to put her painful past behind her to infuse real feelings into him.
Moreover, Laal’s personal story from being a kid to a teenager does look a bit off at certain times and he appears exactly of the same age and height for many years. The movie is way too long and gets a tad boring too. If you have not seen the original Forrest Gump then you might enjoy this movie.
There are flashes of some life-changing events like Operation Bluestar, the assassination of Indira Gandi, the 1984 Sikh massacres, and others. The Laal Singh Chaddha leaves the dull shackles of his mannerisms and hits the road passing by some of the most spectacular sights that India possesses.
Coming to the man of the moment and if you track the movement of Aamir Khan’s fascinating career. His film choices have mostly been driven by the life of nuggets and political stances, despite the boycott brigade. His constant pauses throughout the movie and ‘hmmms’ feels more realistic. Manav Vij is playing a vital role in the movie.

The director has created a faithful and lengthy adaptation that makes a clever commentary on Indian politics.
