Withdraw GST on Pre-Packed, Labelled Food Items- Delhi CM To Centre
Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi CM, criticized the BJP and the central government for the pre-packed food and GST rates, proposing the government discontinue the rule.
On Monday, Arvind Kejriwal, demanded that the central government draw back the goods and services tax, which was recently imposed on labeled and prepackaged food items.
“The entire country is facing a steep price rise, and the Centre has increased the cost of food items by imposing GST on them. I demand the Centre to withdraw it,” said Kejriwal to reporters.
Pre-packed and labeled food items weighing less than 25 kilos were taxed at 5 percent on Monday.
“Delhi is the only state in the country that is providing relief to people from price rise by providing them health, education, water, electricity, travel and other basic facilities free of cost,” Kejriwal said.
“GST would apply on specified goods where the prepackaged commodity is supplied in packages containing a quantity of less than or equal to 25 kilograms,” said the Union finance ministry.
Additionally, Kejriwal clarified that there was a political reason behind the delay in the permission for his visit overseas.
To bring laurels to India, the government of Singapore invited Kejriwal to present the Delhi Model before world leaders at the World Cities Summit.
“I am not a criminal. I am a chief minister and a free citizen of the country. There was no legal basis to stop me from visiting Singapore, so there appears to be a political reason behind this,” said Delhi CM.
