The movie Raksha Bandhan has no business existing in today’s age and era. It is a regressive family drama that forces the audience to believe that girls do not have any worth if they are not married or domesticated. Akshay Kumar plays a role of a chaat vendor in Old Delhi who peddles golgappas to expectant women who desire a male child.

The movie is aimed at warming the cockles of our hearts. After all, it is a story of a ‘heroic’ man with a committed heart and soul. Kedar Nath (Akshay Kumar) is in a race of finding suitable boys for his sister and doing anything to pool together the money needed for the wedding. The audience was left in sorrow by the poor man’s plight.

He is in search of a perfect groom for his sister so that he can marry his longtime girlfriend Sapna (Bhumi Pednekar). It is very hard to believe the existence of this movie in 2022. The movie reflects the scenario which vanished from society years ago. Why would a girl who grew up in India’s NCR in this era give her energy on such a topic as marriage? In today’s world where girls are having ample amount of opportunities and options to build their careers. A movie reflecting the dependence of a girl on her husband for survival seems quite odd to the viewers.

Unfortunately, the movie depresses the nation about women and their skin color, body type, and general demeanor. Kedarnath, the macho brother, carries the burden of his younger female siblings who, in turn, look up to the man for salvation. The magic golgappas of this man have the power to deliver miracles but his attempts to find matches for his sisters do not give instant results.

Kedar’s girlfriend is at her wit’s end. Her father runs out of patience and gave Kedar an ultimatum. His father intends to marry his sister before his superannuation. His father is having only eight months before his retirement. It is a nutshell and the movie is spreading a message that a husband is the only thing that a girl needs in her life.

The movie is written by Himanshi Sharma and Kanika Dhillon and it is only 110 minutes long. Akshay Kumar’s fans would feel a little upset about the performance of the movie at the box office. The movie has failed to create an impact on the audience and give a deep-rooted message.
